101 in 1001 Win: Take a Make Up Class

As a part of my 101 in 1001 bucket list, I went to a make-up artistry class at the Bello Salon in my hometown. The class was really fun and the lady helping us with our make-up was named Christy. She was really nice and helpful. The class was small with only 4 people (there was two of us at first). One girl got an age appropriate make-up and I got the smoky eye. I had to get used to the look, but I felt I looked like a clown at first, but it grew on me and I'm going to try to mimic the look with different colors.

(Ignorance note: Our make-up artist even does hair, Black hair. I know this sounds a little stupid of me, but I didn't think White hair artists did Black hair. In my hometown, they did, but they did a horrible job because it would be frizzy and never hold up. However, it looks like this lady knows what she's doing. I'm hoping to go there for touch ups in between my original hairdresser(I like her because she does good work and I get a discount). I'm definitely going to go to her to get my hair dyed (if it's allowed where I work).)

Now to commence to camwhoring!

I really like this eye makeup, it makes me look like I'm 17, instead of 14 (even though I'll be 22 in October).  To get this look(results may vary because I'm no expert and I couldn't really see what she was doing):
  1. Using a dark eyeliner, cover 1/4 of the eyelid.
  2. Take the colors you want to add and put them in from dark to light. (she used black, plum, and white on me).
  3. Next, you start with the dark color, tap off then press the powder onto your eyelid, then sweep and blend.
  4. Use the second lightest color (this would be the plum for me) and press it on to your brow bone, then sweep and blend. If you mess up, just layer the darkest color and blend.
  5. Use the lightest color and press the white against the under side of your eye brow and blend.
I'm probably going to make time to do this style more often once I get some contacts and the right supplies.

Do you have any make-up tips that you want to divulge? Share them in the comments.

101 in 1001: Have A Blog Giveaway

Hosting a blog giveaway was exciting. I went from 6-7 followers to nearly 60 in a span of a week. I think the coolest things is that I also met a lot of cool people and found some interesting blogs as well. Since this was a part of my 101 in 1001 list, I'm going to give some reflection about it. I hope to do this with everything that goes on my list.

Pros: I forgot how fun promoting and marketing things could be. When I used to write web fiction, I always had fun finding new websites to place ads and talking to others in the web fiction world. It felt nice to be a part of something and to just have fun with it. I wasn't expecting the turn out to be so big, but it was and it was fantastic.

Cons: I messed up the google form and jacked everything up on the first couple days, so I had to start over again. I feel that I should have tested out the form beforehand before unleashing it to the world. Also, I had a million bills to pay, so I think I could have planned a better time. Maybe in the middle of the month. I was so busy with the giveaway that I forgot to blog things that people could read.

Overall: Contests can be a lot of fun, but I suggest if you are going to do one, make it easy to enter, give away something people want, and just have fun with it. Winning just puts a smile on my face (the first time I won something, I darn near fainted because I beat out John Green to get it)  so knowing that I could do that for someone else, gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling.

Didn't win this week? That's okay! Giveaways are so much fun, I'll be holding another one in a couple of weeks!

101 Things In Progress

1.Finish Book 1 of It's All Relative soon(l0l).
I keep pushing the deadline back over and over again because the beginning isn't coming out right for me. I know I'm not supposed to dwell on beginnings, but it's really hard to make it through the chapters when I know the beginning isn't as strong as it could be. I'm going to try to push through it though and do a NaNoWriMo pace until the book is done. I'll have my whole life to edit it and send it out to the world. I probably won't post it until I'm absolutely done. I guess that final post can be my editing process.

4.
Read 50 traditional books in a year (20/50)
This only counts traditional books, but if you count web serials and whatnot, then the count is probably over 35. There's a lot of books that I want to read, it's just about finding the time to do so. I'll probably try to read as many books as I can before the school year starts.

5. Study each class for at least 2 hours a day.
I did kinda get lazy this summer, especially in the psychology class. I could do a lot better in things if I just put 10% more effort into things. I have no one to blame but myself, but I passed and at this points that's all I care about. I do need to make some time to study and try to find a place where I don't get distracted. A place without computers or t.v. I can try it for the fall and read for at least an hour a day each subject.

6. Go to Office hours at least 3 times a week.
At least I went to office hours during the summer for math and psychology. It's easier when the teachers are more inviting and friendly. Hopefully this quarter none of the teachers will have office hours on the days that I work. I'm going to have to go to each teacher's office hours for at least five weeks at the beginning of the quarter.

26. Drink a Naked Juice OR Water everyday. (Naked Juice is expensive.)
I was doing this one as well, but I kind of went crazy because they were having a sale on root beer. Now that the summer is over, I can get back on track and get back to being healthy again. I have a lot of water, but putting it in the fridge makes it too cold and leaving it out makes it too warm. I'm very particular about my water.

    101 Things Win!

    5. Get a medical internship during the summer. (March 14, 2009)
I signed up for Clinical Care Extender a week before Spring Break because I didn't think I get the job at Playful beginnings. I tried to do both at the same time, but in the end I couldn't keep up with school, work, and the internship. I'm glad that I stopped because Mad Science called me back saying that they got work for the fall quarter. I'll start CCE next year in January. I enjoyed the internship, but it was all the rules and bureaucracy made it a pain in the ass to work.

    17. Get a job during the summer.(May 2009)
Speaking of a job, I got a job working at Playful Beginnings. Playful Beginnings is a program designed to help children that have disorders on the autism spectrum. So far it's a flexible and fun job. The kids I work with are adorable and I can see the improvement with the main child I've been working with. She's come a long way with her signing and developing her language skills. It's a really rewarding job and it pays better than most jobs.

    20. Get an apartment/buy a house for the summer/next year.(May 3, 2009)
I'm staying in Sterling University Palm Housing. It's not exactly a "real" apartment, but so far it's a step up from Glen Mor. More on this later.

    25. Research 3 graduate schools a week (during the weekends) (June 2009)
I've narrowed it down to Azusa Pacific, Cal Baptist University, and Loma Linda Unversity. I want to go into pediatric mental health to help with children with mental health issues. I would also like to go to underprivliged areas and go there. We always seems to leave out mental health when it comes to healthcare.

    34. Win a writing competition (scholarships count)
    Affiliates of UCR Scholarship $1500(May 11, 2009)
Desert Valley Foundation Scholarship $4000 (August 23, 2009)

    59. Change major to Psychology. (June 4, 2009)
I changed my major to psychology and I can still take neuroscience classes because they are crosslisted. Someone somewhere down the line should have told me this.

    14. Volunteer two hours a week.
I'm signing up to volunteer at the UCR extension center because as a volunteer you get to take complimentary classes. Now, I don't know if this means that I get to choose the classes I want or if I have to take certain classes that are open. I want to take Introduction to Getting Published($105), Available Light Photography Workshop ($145), and Understanding and Meeting the Needs of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder($395). I know this is kinda of a shady way to get into classes, but most of these classes are on Saturdays or on days where I'm not working. At least I'll be doing something good by helping people sign up for classes and hopefully I'll be able to take some classes in the process.

    54. Get ears repierced and another piercing.
A couple days before vacation this year, I got my ears repierced and got another hole (in each ear). I have four piercings now (2 in each ear) and plan on getting another one for my 21st birthday. I have space for one more on my earlobe and we'll see about getting the cartilage. I don't want to go overboard because I do need a full time job at some point.

    25. Research 3 Graduate Schools a Week.
This is a bit over done because by the end whenever, I'll have a bunch of schools and nowhere to go. My top three list is always changing as I look at the different programs but so far my top five are Azusa Pacific, University of Rochester, Loma Linda, Cal Baptist, and University of California, San Francisco. My ultimate goal would to go to Azusa Pacific, I'm not sure why, I just feel strong about it.(the same way I did about UC Riverside).

    38. Meet a Nationally Known Author. (October 22, 2009)
Maya Angelou came to UC Riverside October 22, 2009 and I took my mom to see her for the second part of her birthday. Here are some notes from her speech.
       Education is an ongoing process.
It's one thing to go to college, but what will you do with your education? Do you have
the courage to go above and beyond? A human being has the ability for anything and
everything. We wouldn't be here without the rainbows in our lives. Modesty is something
you learn, but being humble is something that comes with growing up.
Be a rainbow in someone else's life.

    74. Get a new Hairstyle (November 1, 2009)
I got a weave. I know with that whole good hair thing going around it's probably a bad thing to be wearing a weave (I actually haven't seen the movie "Good Hair" yet). I got a weave because I'm too scared to cut my actually hair. I got a bob cut with a streak of purple. It looks cute, even if I'm not exactly used to having my hair this way. I actually might get an asymmetrical bob next time I get my hair done. Short in the back a bit long in the front with the purple. I like it though, it makes me look my age.
